Welcome to Your Home

The Beirut

Since 1977, The Beirut has been a Toledo tradition, bringing generations of families and friends together around authentic Lebanese cuisine, warm hospitality, and unforgettable memories.

The story began in 1974 when Labib Hajjar and his cousin opened the Beirut Bakery. Known for its fresh-baked pita bread, handmade grape leaves, kibbie, and traditional Middle Eastern specialties, the bakery quickly earned a loyal following throughout the community.

As demand for authentic Lebanese dining continued to grow, Labib Hajjar and his business partner, Riad Abou-Arraj, opened The Beirut Restaurant in 1977 at 4350 Monroe Street. What began as a cozy restaurant seating just 86 guests soon became one of Toledo’s most beloved dining destinations. The restaurant eventually relocated to its current home at 4082 Monroe Street, expanding to accommodate more than 200 guests while preserving the welcoming atmosphere that has made it a local favorite for decades.

Together, Labib, his wife Karyn, and Riad built more than a restaurant—they created a place where every guest is treated like family. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, gathering with friends, or simply craving the comforting flavors of home, The Beirut has long been known as “your home away from home.” Many visitors who have moved away even make The Beirut their first stop whenever they return to Toledo for what they affectionately call their “Beirut Fix.”

Today, The Beirut continues to serve the same authentic, homemade Lebanese recipes that have been passed down through generations. In addition to dining in, guests enjoy convenient carryout, extensive catering services, and The Kitchen at The Beirut, opened in 2006, offering a casual deli-style experience for lunch and quick takeout.
